Letter to Leather.

You started as an escape from the structure of ones and zeros on my screen. The play of light you showed me was hypnotic. I picked you up, enjoyed your touch, discovered the softness of your edges and the complexity of your grain. I leaned in, breathed deep and savoured your natural scent of nostalgia. So real and one of a kind.

Cartera artesanal de piel, hecha a mano en Ciudad de México
Aaron M., fundador de Piel de Vino

I'm Aaron, engineer by trade, artist by heart. I fell in love with leather. I want the same to happen to you, through pieces that graze perfection.

Process

01

Leather selection

The hide is spread across the table and held to the light. Fingers read the grain, trace the natural marks, and choose the section that will give life to each piece.

02

Cutting

The leather is cut slowly, with precision and by hand. A mistake here follows every step after. That is why there is no rush.

03

Preparation

Each edge is skived, thinned, and beveled by hand, layer by layer. Paint or edge sealant is applied. Ready for assembly.

04

Assembly

Just the right amount of glue is applied to each piece — not a drop more, not a drop less. The union is made with surgical precision, aligned by hand and needle.

05

Hand stitching

Stitch by stitch, threads are woven together to hold the pieces for decades. Every stitch must be perfect.

06

Edge finishing

Each edge is beveled, sanded, and burnished by hand, again and again, until the finish is crystal clear.
